Author’s Statement: I was born in Uganda, grew up in Zimbabwe and moved to Birmingham, Alabama when I was 10. Since then, I’ve lived in 11 cities worldwide and speak 4 languages, though not all as fluently as I’d like. So I know what it’s like to navigate different cultural environments and what it’s like to code switch between them all. And it’s made me realize that Different is beautiful and worthy of being celebrated spectacularly.

I personally know why it’s so important to look like yourself in your photos and celebrate the richness in your skin tones and not feel like you have to blend into the background or have your look adjusted to fit a specific “status quo” look.
