Writing The Future | A Man With A Mission – Legendary Photographer Sebastião Salgado

Photographer Sebastião Salgado’s works are stunningly beautiful and deeply political at the same time. His elegant black and white images show us people in need and nature at risk, in all its beauty and brutality – from gold diggers in the Amazon to the genocide in Rwanda and the signs of climate change. And his fantastic photos have all been published as illustrated books, like “Genesis”, which is a collection of epic pictures, taken on an eight-year expedition around the world.

Sebastião Salgado’s work has been exhibited internationally and he’s also been the subject of an acclaimed documentary film: “Salt of the Earth” by German director Wim Wenders. At Frankfurt Book Fair 2019 the Brazilian photographer was awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade – as the the first photographer ever to receive the award. The jury described Salgado as an artist “who works for social justice and peace through his photographs and who lends urgency to the global debate on nature and protecting the climate.”
